Splitboard Romania 2021 Dates TBC
The Făgăraș mountains are the highest massif in the Carpathians mountain range. Deep in the heart of this remote Transylvanian wilderness is nestled a rare gem. A site of outstanding natural beauty & deep un-tracked snow.
Bâlea Lac is a glacial lake situated at 2034m. Rising up above and all around it are the jagged peaks of the ‘Transylvanian Alps’ reaching up to 2544m
Blessed with abundant snowfall this relatively unknown destination offers up world class splitboarding and freeride snowboarding potential.
Deep, untracked powder awaits and we are super excited to be the first splitboard tour operator to be able to offer you an unforgettable experience on this unique trip.
Arrival in Sibiu on 16th January where we will spend the night before we drive a way up the world famous Transfagarasan highway on the morning of the 17th. We reach Balea Cascada at 1234m and take the single cable car up to the lake where we find the Cabana Paltinu at 2054m, which is our accommodation for the week.
We will be based for 5 nights at this very comfortable lodge where we can explore the terrain on offer from the front door Guided by Paul Verdier UIAGM this trip includes 5 full days of splitboard guiding, half-board accommodation at the Paltinu refuge and return airport transfers to Sibiu airport on the afternoon of the 22nd January
This freeride paradise offers countless line options. A short 600m vertical ascent from the refuge opens up many different routes with a total descent to the bottom of the cable car of 1400m.
Expect to skin 600m twice a day and enjoy nearly 3000m of vertical drop daily surrounded by spectacular views of the Transfăgărășan mountain road and Făgăraș mountains.
You will be familiar and comfortable with using boot crampons and a harness. Riding steep powder lines and couloirs are not a problem, you’ll also be happy riding potentially variable snow conditions at lower altitudes.

That was an awesome trip! Definitely added a few permanent clips to the memory bank. Untracked powder lines and steep couloirs. A couple of decent skin tracks back up too!
