Real World Splitboard Advice

Good splitboard advice is always needed, but it’s not always easy to get.

The Sick And The Wrong have been in the business of selling snowboards since 1993 making them one of the longest running independent core boardsports retailers in the UK.

Back in ’93 they stocked 12 boards, these days they have around 200 so whilst things have changed there what hasn’t altered is their passion for riding, stocking the best equipment and offering good splitboard advice to our shared customers.

It can be hard to work out what you need

And that’s exactly why having physical bricks and mortar shops like  S&W are crucial.  With splitboards on the shelves that you can  go and physically flex and boots in the racks that YOU CAN ACTUALLY TRY ON it takes away a lot of the agonising guesswork of buying online.  In fact it brings back some of the joy  of buying winter equipment.

Core, indy board shops will always beat a hobby blogs advice

There are online journals that review splitboard gear popping up that have well presented websites with opinions on equipment that they haven’t actually used in the field.  It makes them appear rather authoritative but real world advice is best taken from come from those who are actually qualified to work in the industry. Brand reps, athletes, UIAGM or IMFGA guides are alway’s worth taking note of.

There are also great online review sites out there

We’re not throwing shade at the entire digital realm here.  There are many, many blogs, reviewers and brand websites that truly are an incredibly useful resource for people looking to buy online.  Let’s face it core splitboarding shops aren’t on every high street so many people do have to shop on the internet out of necessity.

Here are a just a few of the websites that we like – there are many more out there.

Backcountry Magazine –  an annual editors’ gear review which features  in-depth, real world, testing by experienced splitboarders

Mountain Weekly News – cover a wide range of splits,  a great source of info about the climbing and descending qualities of each

Splitboard Magazine – this isn’t as active in reviews anymore but it’s always worth checking out

Reddit – you might be surprised at the wealth of real knowledge shared by users on this site.  It is always worth a search on here
